The Preview application will allow you to see the results of a specific synchronization job without actually performing the actions. This is useful to ensure that a job has been configured to synchronize files in the manner you expect. Relations and Schedules can be previewed. Real-Time Monitors cannot be previewed because the actions being taken are performed as they occur. To get an idea of what a Real-Time Monitor would do you can preview the Relation that the Monitor will run before running it in the Real-Time Monitor. The Preview also gives you a chance to override any individual actions to further customize the actions taken by the synchronization on that particular run of the job.
To access the Preview select the Relation or Schedule and click the Preview button (

) on the Toolbar, right click on the Relation or Schedule and select Preview, or go to
File | Preview.
In almost all cases, the Preview will display the actions that would happen if you were to run a job without a Preview. However, if you are previewing a Schedule that contains Relations whose paths overlap, actions displayed in a Preview can be different then those preformed when the Schedule is run without a Preview. See the
Overlapping Relations topic for more information.
The default view when a Preview is generated is the Folder Tree View. This view displays the folder structure in a tree view on the left hand side of the Preview panel and the contents of the currently selected directory in the right hand panel.
The preview will display different levels of files based off of the settings on the
Preview tab of the Relation. The default setting is to list all files which are affected by a Rule in the Relation. Each file which will have an action performed if the synchronization is run will have an action indicated (

) icon next to the file name. Any file which will not have actions performed will simply not display this icon.
If an 'action indicated' icon appears next to a file name you can expand that file name by clicking on the + icon. This will branch out the display to show all of the copies of the file on all of the paths involved in the synchronization and the actions taken on each. This makes it easy to see the actions being performed if your synchronization contains many paths. For each path there will be an icon denoting the action which will be performed. Our
Preview - Legend topic discusses these icons in detail.
To see the contents of a subdirectory in the Preview you must click on the sub-directory using the left hand tree view menu. This will update the display to show the files in that subdirectory in the right pane.
